If it were your own money, would you rather buy a new Ridgeline or new Colorado/Canyon for your DD?
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:32 |

With my own money I got the Colorado.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:34 |

The Ridgeline. I don’t tow, or go off road. I maybe only use the box once every few months, what I maybe put in fill half of it. If I need anything bigger, I can rent one.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:34 |

Probably the GM one.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:35 |

Ridgeline.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:36 |

Probably a Canyon, although I wish it had the heated steering wheel without the ugly grille and came in the short cab with the shorter bed with the diesel engine.

Colorado.
This is actually a pretty tough choice.

Tacoma TRD off-road with the stick

Tacoma
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:47 |

Diesel Colorado. 7k towing capacity, 30 mpg highway, and plenty civilized for my tastes. I also think they look damn good.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:49 |

Yep.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:49 |

Coloranyon. The Ridgeline is nice too though.
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:53 |

Colorado all day
![]() 03/22/2017 at 23:59 |

I have the Bronco for offroading, so I’d get the Ridgeline. If that weren’t the case, it would be a more difficult decision. But still leaning towards Ridgeline.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:00 |

No.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:02 |

Ridgeline
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:03 |

I would buy a Taco. Drive it for 8 years then sell it for $34 less than I paid for it with 70k on the odometer.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:05 |
|
And with the ridgeline you still get a trunk about the size of a normal sedan. For the stuff that needs to stay dry. And the tailgate moves out of the way which is nice.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:06 |
|
I have a 2015 Colorado, and I love it. The Ridgeline was not out when I ordered mine, but it would not have played a role in my decision anyways. Any specific questions? Ask away.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:07 |

The (second) most outdated, and not entirely competitive choice in its class? Ok.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:10 |
|
Relatively speaking, a full size sucks to drive around in town. The smaller option is also way easier to park in town or drive on trails off road. And yes, I know that a full size is still entirely livable.

Tacoma because of brand loyalty and reliability but throwing that out the window I REALLY like the Canyon.

Dated = proven
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:28 |

I do understand the logic, but that’s also the thought process that lead to the malaise era.
At worst, as someone else mentioned, the Tacoma will probably win on resale value. Even if it offers less than its competitors.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:33 |

No, laziness led to the malaise era. Taking a proven idea and refining it is a 911. I like the notion of making incramental improvements over “innovating” a new truck each time...especially if im going to stake my life on it just working
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:37 |
|
Fair enough. But the Colorado never left other world markets. It’s not a fresh-slate design, just the freshest in the class until the 2nd gen Ridgeline came around.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:41 |
|
Two of those are the same truck and one is an Accord that someone took a sawzall to. I’ll take one of the trucks. But, in all seriousness I’d just get a real full size truck. The marginal differences in price, size and MPG just aren’t worth the loss in capacity.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:43 |
|
They changed a helluva lot between to the global truck when they brought it here, only with the refresh (the one we got) is the global one well recieved. Its a good truck i just prefere the “let not chase the fanciest tech and numbers, lets just do what we know really well” attitude of toyota. They are far from the fanciest trucks even when new but they are much less flash in the pan compared to other trucks
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:43 |
|
Canyon definitely. I’m sure the ridge line is more than enough truck for me but it’s ugly as shit and the fuel economy isn’t better enough to not just get a real truck, Colorado is kinda ugly too. Would probably go taco myself still, or wait for the ranger.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 00:59 |

Ridgeline.

T100
![]() 03/23/2017 at 02:43 |

If I needed a DD that had a pickup bed I’d get a Ridgeline, if I needed a Truck I’d get a Ram 2500 Cummins.

Can Tacoma be an option too?
![]() 03/23/2017 at 06:17 |

Diesel Colorado/Canyon for me, thanks.
Additionally, I propose that the Colorado/Canyon be collectively referred to as the Col-on.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 06:35 |

I’d have to drive both. For what I do the either would work. Probably the Canyon though (I prefer it looks wise over the Colorado). I like that it’s body on frame still.

FIAT Strada Adventure?
![]() 03/23/2017 at 09:11 |

I know, but if I’m going truck, I’m going TRUCK.
The new ZR2 has me intrigued, I can’t recall see any reviews yet though. Not to mention its still probably $40k +
![]() 03/23/2017 at 10:25 |

tough call ....
the GMC is the best looking out of the 3
honda might hold resale value better
me personally said f- it and bought a silverado for the same (or less) than what they are asking for these mid size
![]() 03/23/2017 at 10:30 |
|
I’d get the Canyonrado.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 10:30 |
|
The ZR2 has me intrigued, too. They were always, far and away, the best trim S-10 and Jimmy. I wish they would have a manual option again...
I’ve been driving my Colorado daily, and am about to turn 30k miles. Over that time, I’ve averaged over 24mpg. A mid-size also has all the hauling ability that I need. Over 1400lb payload? Some people just “need” full-size before they consider it a “truck,” though.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 10:43 |
|
By all means I get your point. I just posted a power wagon because “If it were your own money” was in the original post. I used to off road some stock shitty jeeps and man they went everywhere (I like solid axles).
But my mother has a been a habitual Silverado buyer. Lives in town and doesn’t do any “truck” things, just snows a lot where I’m from. I’ve suggested test driving a Colorado but she’ll probably just end up buying another Silverado because she likes them.

Except for the new 3.5, which is new and problematic.
I respect the Taco a lot, but it has a big chink in its armor right now.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:13 |
|
Solid logic.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:15 |
|
They have some cam issues, but as far as I know that was a production batch that’s been sorted.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:15 |
|
The new 3.5 is having some problems. A friend of mine bought one, and the engine ate a cam and lifters before he got out of the dealership parking lot.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:17 |
|
That’s good to hear. Personally I’d stay away from it for a few years to make sure of that, but I’m probably overly cautious. You may recall, but my friend’s new one last year didn’t make it out of the dealership lot before eating a cam and lifters.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:19 |
|
Gotcha! And I also hope there are ZR2 reviews coming out sooner than later.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:20 |
|
yup, as I recall it wasn’t an engineering problem it was an assembly problem. I mean, its still a problem they have to own but as I understand its been corrected and is no longer an issue.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 11:49 |
|
Now that you mention it, I heard they were having trouble getting all the sand out of the casting. That’s certainly well within Toyota’s capability to correct.
![]() 03/23/2017 at 21:39 |

I didn’t know they offered yellow. Is it a special order color?
![]() 03/24/2017 at 11:03 |
|
It was a regular option, available in the second half of the 2015 MY. And it was the only thing deleted for the 2016 MY. I have seen some other ones around, but it’s not common. I would love to see a production number breakdown. (Especially for the manual transmission yellow ones... I did in fact order mine this way. You should have seen the look on the sales manager’s face when he came with the sheet that printed out in his office.)
![]() 03/24/2017 at 13:43 |

I remember my local dealer had a yellow ZR2 S10 when I was in school a jus starting to get into cars. I always thought it looked the business and would love to get its spiritual successor. My first car was a burgundy S10, so I can settle on that but I’m going to keep a eye out for a yellow now!
![]() 03/24/2017 at 17:52 |
|
The yellow ZR2 is really uncommon. My first car was also an S-10, but it was solid red. It’s a little bit full circle for me, in that way...
I would say the new ZR2 would be a fantastic choice, except for that fact I’m sure they’ll cost (literally) double what my truck cost.
![]() 03/24/2017 at 20:31 |
|
Yeah, I can’t remotely justify a ZR2 over the standard Colorado with the Z71 package lol. The only off-roading I do is getting to the family reunion
![]() 03/24/2017 at 23:04 |

Heck, and here I am where I love being able to drive over small bumps without any worry at all... with my 2WD WT.

Neither.

I’m not a fan of the Tacoma but I would buy that Hilux in a heartbeat. I wish they sold them in the states.
